  • Vicki Gerson's company, Vicki Gerson & Associates, Inc., has been selected for the 2009 Best of Northbrook Award in the Writers category by the U.S. Commerce Association (USCA). The USCA "Best of Local Business" Award Program recognizes outstanding local businesses throughout the country. Each year, the USCA identifies companies that they believe have achieved exceptional marketing success in their local community and business category. These are local companies that enhance the positive image of small business through service to their customers and community.

    Chicago Chocolate Tours, founded by Valerie Beck, was featured in the Chicago Tribune as a good activity for locals in our own city. Read the article.

    The new book Women Who Win at Work: Flowers of Wisdom from Visionary Businesswomen, includes interviews with Valerie Beck, and Hedy Ratner, among others. The book is available at bookstores and online, including www.prosperiapublishing.com and www.fellpub.com.

    Rosemary Blandford, www.RosieKnows.com, was featured on WBBM-TV morning news on August 13. She was interviewed about her business, a website providing free lessons on how to use websites for finding information, saving money and purchasing a wide range of products and services. During the interview, Curran had Blandford demonstrate one website for people seeking food coupons and a second one helping people save money on travel. Currently, Blandford has more than 200 websites available with step-by-step tutorials, and new sites are being added every few weeks.

  • 2009 Influential Women in Business Awards
  • The Influential Women in Business Awards recognize women executives who excel in business, civic and personal arenas. The nominee's business must either be located or have a major presence in The Business Ledger's primary editorial coverage area (DuPage County, west or northwest Cook County, Will County and the Fox Valley). Nomination forms are due September 18, 2009. Awards will be presented on November 12 at the luncheon.
